Sugar Lee Hooper
Sugar Lee Hooper (real name: Marja van der Toorn) was a Dutch singer and tv personality who passed away last week from complications after a fall from her scooter. She was known for her shaved head and brightly coloured clothes, as well as being the first Dutch celebrity to be married to a same-sex partner (in 1998). She released 3 best-selling albums and had several top 10 hits in the 1990s.
Condolences to the lesbians of Holland and to her partner Andrea van der Kaap. Sugar Lee will be missed!
Alison Goldfrapp
Alison Goldfrapp is a musician who is the singer and co-songwriter of the band Goldfrapp. In an interview with The Times in February 2010, she confirmed she was dating film editor, Lisa Gunning, but didn't like being labelled a lesbian, saying, "I think of everything as being about a person and a relationship, and I am in a wonderful relationship with a wonderful person. It just happens to be with a lady."
Here on Lesbian of the Day, we love labelling ladies as lesbian if they, you know, have sex with women and stuff. So congrats, Alison!
Goldfrapp have just released their fifth album, Head First.
